Srixon Soft Feel Ball Review | Is This the One for You?

What makes a good golf ball? Well, lots of things. A well-designed golf ball should be forgiving, durable, easy to control, and not impossible to hit at a high trajectory and achieve long distances.

Srixon Soft

The Srixon Soft Feel is a promising golf ball that bears a mid-range price tag while carrying the potential of a higher-end ball.

Srixon Soft

Based on my 15+ years of experience as a professional golfer, I’ve tried and tested a plethora of golf balls, and I can easily recommend the Srixon Soft Feel for many golfers, but of course, it’s not suitable for everyone.

So how does it really perform on the course? What are its advantages and disadvantages? Let’s find out in this extensive Srixon Soft Feel review!

Features / Specifications

The Srixon Soft Feel is a golf ball that integrates a FastLayer Core coupled with an ionomer cover. The cover is very thin and soft and has a dimpled texture that feels very nice.

While this is a 2-piece ball, it’s pretty much on par with many other 3-piece, 4-piece, and 5-piece balls on the market. It makes me wonder how such a minimalistic design is capable of achieving a pro-level performance and feel.

Here’s a quick summary of the Srixon Soft Feels Specs:

Construction 2-Piece ionomer cover 338 dimples
Compression Rating60 (low to mid)
Swing Speed<100 miles per hours
Driving Distance160 – 230 yards
Available ColorsPink, yellow, and matte white

Control & Forgiveness

One of the factors that make the Srixon Soft Feel golf ball stand out from the crowd is the amount of control you get with it. It’s very forgiving, so if you want your ball to land in a specific location, most of the time, it will.

On top of that, if you want to put a bit of a fade on the Srixon Soft Feel, it’ll feel just right. This is probably one of the balls that can definitely create a major impact on your game, as it can take your accuracy to the next level.

Sure, it won’t do much if your swing technique needs a lot of improvement, but it’ll offset those times when your swing isn’t 100% as it should be.

Distance & Performance

The Srixon Soft Feel integrates a 338 Speed Dimple pattern that allows you to hit it further. This design can drastically reduce drag, making it easier for you to cover a longer distance.

Many golfers are able to reach a minimum distance of 160 yards to up to 230 yards with the Srixon Soft Feel. Of course, there are many variables that come into play, like swing speed, technique, and weather conditions.

Who Should Use the Srixon Soft Feel?

As a general rule of thumb, the Srixon Soft Feel would be a good fit for golfers with a 70-80 swing speed.

The company recommends a swing speed of less than 100 mph, so if your swing speed is somewhere between 90 and 100 mph, you should still consider trying out the Srixon Soft Feel. However, you won’t probably get the most out of this ball if your swing speed falls outside the 70-80 mph range.

Swing speed isn’t the only thing that you should make you consider this ball. The Srixon Soft Feel would also be a worthy option for anyone who wants a softer-feeling ball, needs a ball with a low compression rating, is trying to launch the ball higher up in the air, or simply looking for an average-priced golf ball.

Whether you are a junior, senior, a lady, or a weekend golfer, the Srixon Soft Feel won’t disappoint you.

How to Test the Srixon Soft Feel?

One easy way to test the Srixon Soft Feel is to use a portable launch monitor. This device allows you to test your golf balls and provide you with detailed info on the ball speed, spin axis, spin rate, carry distance, launch angle, and club path.

With a portable launch monitor, you’ll be able to get an idea of what it’d be like to use the Srixon Soft Feel on the course. Another added benefit is that you’ll be able to improve your swing and match it to the ball’s design.

Alternatively, you can just head out to the course and hit the Srixon Soft Feel from multiple spots. If it feels good and gives you enough stopping power, this probably means that it’s suitable for you.

Pros and Cons

The Srixon Soft Feel golf ball is packed with a lot of goodness. However, it’s not free of flaws.

To give you a better idea of what to expect out of the Srixon Soft Feel, here’s a quick walkthrough of its advantages and disadvantages:

Feel

As its name implies, the Srixon Soft Feel feels and sounds very soft, both in the short game and long game. Since this is a 60 compression golf ball with a cover that’s just 0.063” thick, it’ll feel softer than many higher-end balls on the market, especially on those short and mid iron shots.

Performance

The Srixon Soft Feel is a low compression ball. This makes it an excellent choice for golfers with slow-medium swing speed as it allows them to hit the ball further more consistently.

Compared to more rigid balls that just feel impossible to control over the greens, this ball has a nice high-quality feel to it that makes it unmatchable in terms of travel distance.

Durability

When it comes to durability, the Srixon Soft Feel isn’t really on par with higher-end golf balls. You’ll definitely notice some scuff marks after you hit it a sufficient number of times.

Nevertheless, these scuff marks shouldn’t be much of an issue if we’re talking about performance here. It should last you more than many other golf balls that carry a close price tag.

Launch

The launch of the Srixon Soft Feel is another pro of its low compression design. With a high launch angle, this ball’s trajectory is excellent. You’ll be able to hold greens by making your ball get up higher in the air on those mid and long iron shots.

Price

The Srixon Soft Feel is quite affordable. It’s not the cheapest around, but it does offer a lot of bang for your buck at its asking price. Its performance is spectacular for what you pay.

Swing

While the Srixon Soft Feel is great for golfers with slow/medium swing speeds, a golfer whose swing speed is high might struggle with this ball.

I’m talking about a 100+ swing speed here. If your swing speed exceeds that threshold, the ball could fly so high to the point that it affects the distance covered.

Spin

Spin is one of the few areas where the Srixon Soft Feel could do better. It doesn’t have enough stopping power on the greens, at least when compared to balls like the ProV1.

Alternative to the Srixon Soft Feel Ball

If you think that the Srixon Soft Feel golf ball isn’t the one for you, consider checking out the Callaway Supersoft golf ball. It’s very comparable in terms of softness.

Callaway Golf Supersoft Golf Balls

Not to mention, you’ll be able to putt with it on the greens no matter what course you’re playing on.

The 2021 version of the Callaway Supersoft sports a compressing rating of 38. That’s about 63% of the Srixon Soft Feel’s compression rating. So, if your swing speed falls on the lower side of the spectrum, the Callaway Supersoft’s design will make it much easier for you to compress the ball with any type of golf club.

What’s more, the Callaway Supersoft flaunts a 2-piece construction that comprises a hybrid PARALOID Impact Modifier cover in addition to a soft-compression core. Such multi-material design does a great job at improving control, spin, durability, launch, and feel.

The ball also features an innovative dimple pattern that Callaway calls “Hex Aerodynamics” technology. It basically means that the ball has zero flat spots on its surface, which supposedly minimizes drag and enhances lift.

In short, the Callaway Supersoft is very similar to the Srixon Soft Feel. It feels great around the greens, can achieve long travel distances, has a good flight, and carries a low price tag.

Nevertheless, because of the soft design, neither ball will provide a good spin.

FAQ

Are Srixon Soft Feel Balls Any Good?

Srixon Soft Feel balls are great!  They’re soft, and you’ll be able to hit them further than many other golf balls. Not to mention, they’re priced quite reasonably.

Is The Srixon Soft Feel A Distance Ball?

Yes! The Srixon Soft Feel can definitely be categorized as a distance golf ball. Just keep in mind that its distance is maximized only if you’re a slow-medium swinger.

Conclusion

To recap, the Srixon Soft Feel is undoubtedly worth giving a shot. It’s very soft, travels high and long, and the best part is that it won’t cost you more than the average price of a golf ball.

And while this ball is considered durable, it lags behind other higher-end golf balls in this compartment. Still, this shouldn’t stop you from getting this soft ball.

But remember that this ball is designed with slow swingers in mind. You’ll only reach your full potential with this ball if your swing speed is considerably less than 100 mph.
