Titleist AP1 Irons Detailed Review

Titleist AP1 Irons

Buying the righ Ap1 iron can be a difficult task if you don’t know the specs and features of the golf club. Take a look below at the truely amazing and latest specs that come with a Titleist AP1 iron

Specs

Compared to the Titleist older API irons, golfers should receive 300 rpm less spin, 1.4mph more ball speed, just over three more yards of carrying with the new AP1 7-iron. However, the lofts have been toughened slightly. The Titleist Iron golf club delivers a quality game every time, with a great look, feel and sound brought to you by the one and only Titleist iron. Enhanced leading-edge technology brings efficiency and interaction for consistent contact and delivery.

The Titleist AP1 iron golf clubs upgraded and replaced the classic AP1 irons and resumed the Advanced Performance franchise in 2008. The AP1 irons carry a classis, yet modern theme with the AP 4 and AP 5 iron now including a hollow construction rather than an extensive cavity back. This means the iron is much lighter than before, permitting more power and control behind every shot.

Design

Thin, fast, baseless face inserts generate explosive ball speed for further distance. The hollow-body long irons were based on Titleist’s previous Golf Club – C16 Iron Models and manufactured without any limits on materials or expense to maximize accuracy and helping to maintain distance on longer shots on the golf course.

High-grade tungsten weighting produces a lower CG for higher launch with shot-stopping control.

Minimising risks on difficult shots is one of the key features in manufacturing the Titleist Ap1 Iron. The irons are designed so they allow the balls to fly extremely further than others and the Titleist engineers are proud of their latest achievements.

Quality

The Titleist iron cast features a 17-4 stainless steel hollow body with a high MOI design featuring tungsten. With an extra-strength steel face insert welded onto it, the leading edge has been ‘pre-worn’ or clipped off to enable it to move through the playing field more easily.

The AP1  hollow design offers a different sound to the cavity back long irons of the 716 span, with a little more of a muted/hollow sound. However, it is still pretty nice pleasant sound on the ear drums.

Performance

The 5-iron, in particular, was outstanding and provided more launch and distance during a game than the previous models. The AP1 is a blend from another set.

Value

There are cheaper golf clubs available on the market. However, none of them maintains the quality that Titleist clubs have, and you get what you pay for at the end of the day. Compare prices here on Amazon.

Features and Benefits of Titleist AP1 Irons

Many golf clubs include special and unique features and benefits, check out some interesting and amazing features and benefits below.

Durability

The spin-milled grooves on each golf club are heat-treated during manufacturing for maximum durability and fantastic backspin.  56 grams of refined tungsten per head placed low and in the toe of the long and mid golf clubs produce higher ball speeds across the field for more uniform distance on off-center hits.

Refined tungsten weighting

Titleist declared that these are their most forgiving irons, and this comes from manufacturing the golf clubs from high-density refined tungsten, one of the strongest metals known to man.  A total of 56 grams of tungsten were used to produce AP1 Irons. The previous design only featured 42 grams of tungsten. This utilizes the rest of the head construction to support the face with weight around the edges to maximize forgiveness.

The modifications Titleist has included with the AP1 make the new golf increase the face speed and lower the spin with lofts that are 1° stronger in the 4 to 9 iron golf clubs.

Customize Option

The stock shaft is lighter in the long irons and gets heavier as you move to the short irons, but there are also multiple other choices available. Titleist provides an option to customize your golf clubs for the perfect custom fitting.

It goes to say that the gap wedges continue the classicstyle design and shape of the previous 718 AP1 irons so that you can res assured to deliver good hits.

Dependable Distance

The AP1 provides the finest combination of dependable distance and trajectory for each individually-designed iron.

This classic feature is excellent because it keeps the same design style of cavity back head throughout the set, which doesn’t force you to alternate between golf clubs for full wedge shots between different distances.

Greater MOI (Moment of Inertia)

A higher MOI allows you more room on the face to hit it pure. An improved hi-tech design produces better turf traction for complete contact. The MOI in the Titleist AP1 Iron lets you hit every shot closer to your target.

It is my professional opinion that the AP1 irons were not only great irons for mid to high range, but longer golf club irons are more suited for better players.

Many game improvement irons incorporate the feel and sound of better player irons, and the Titleist 718 AP1 is a prime example of this.

Those with a desire to improve their game, should be interested in a few AP1s for a smooth open course set with a Titleist AP1 Iron. The refined head size offers fantastic shaped short irons merged with tolerant mid and long club irons. The feel for this head design is pleasing to the eye and conventional. With a sheer shiny finish, the Titleist AP1 iron looks like a professional golfing iron.

Absolutely yes, and I will tell you just one of many reasons. Those who want to improve their game, should be interested in a few AP1s for a smooth open course set with a Titleist AP1 Iron. Things to Consider Before Buying the Titleist AP1 Irons

Grip Thickness

Grip Thickness

The ideal grip should let you hold the club using your left hand’s middle and ring fingers with very little touching the pad with the thumb. If your finger doesn’t touch your thumb, it’s an indication that the grip is too big for your hands.

The Shaft

Gaining the ideal length of the shaft is critically important when buying a Titleist AP1 iron. It is important to consider your height, body type, and strength. Generally speaking,  tall players usually need a longer shaft to play their absolute best. Furthermore, you should also consider the shaft flex and its appropriateness to your swing.

Choosing a shaft that’s too stiff will cause lower ball flight and an overall loss of distance, whereas a shaft that has too much flex can result in ballooning and, again, a loss in distance.

The Clubhead

If you want to make the most of your Titleist Ap1 golf club, holding various-sized clubheads can be a true advantage. Most brands offer standard, midsize and oversized heads for their golf club irons and your choice of clubhead size is mainly dependent on your experience level. Typically, the bigger the clubhead, the more forgiveness your swing has. You can achieve brilliant results with an oversized head, these are often weighty and difficult to control.
